Who Owns the Mercedes-Benz Corporation?

The Mercedes-Benz Corporation has been owned by Daimler AG. Located in Stuttgart, Baden-Württemberg, Germany, Daimler AG is known for designing some of the most luxurious models in the automotive industry. They’ve owned Mercedes-Benz since 1926. In fact, Mercedes-Benz used to be called “Daimler-Benz.” On a final note, if San Marcos drivers came here wondering who owns Mercedes-Benz Stadium, home of the NFL Atlanta Falcons and MLS Atlanta United, it’s actually the state of Georgia.

Mercedes-Benz Past

So, how did the Mercedes-Benz Corporation come to be owned by the Daimler Motors Corporation? At the end of the 19th century, Karl Benz invented the very first gas-powered personal automobile. It was called the Benz Patent Motorwagen. In 1901, Daimler Motors Corporation took on the responsibility of marketing this model to the public. 25 years later, Karl Benz and Gottlieb Daimler decided to merge their companies, and renamed themselves “Daimler-Benz.”
